Kings must be wary of Alapag
MANILA, Philippines — With Talk ’N Text playmaker Jimmy Alapag regaining his deadly touch, Barangay Ginebra will have to play a mean defense in Game 4 to avoid falling into a 3-1 hole in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.

The 5-foot-9 veteran playmaker knocked down three three-pointers in seven tries, including one that mattered most that paved the way for their 104-88 win in Puerto Princesa City Sunday.

Though Alapag finished with only 11 points – still below his 15.7 points per game average in the semifinal duel against Air21 – he was delighted with his game, especially his shooting.

“It’s always a good feeling for a shooter like me to see my shots go,” Alapag said. “Compared the previous game where, as I’ve said, the shots I normally knock down didn’t fall. So it’s just a great feeling for me to make the shots that helped the team win.”

However, it wasn’t just Alapag who found the mark from three-point area as forward Ranidel de Ocampo converted five-of-seven attempts, including back-to-back triples that ignited a 10-2 run late in the third period that turned a 47-all to 57-49 going to the final frame.

TNT had a more balanced scoring this time as import Paul Harris scattered 15 markers with nine rebounds, while guard Jason Castro added 15 points, and forward Harvey Carey collected 13 and eight rebounds. Bigmen Ali Peek and Kelly Williams contributed 10 points each.

Game 4 of the Finals series resumes tomorrow at the Araneta Coliseum with Talk ’N Text targeting a 3-1 advantage, which in the history of the PBA seven-game duel, only two teams have ever comeback from such deficit.
